Remembering courage not to be forgotten: May 19, 1945
A group of seven African Americans defied Jim Crow laws by wading into the ocean at Haulover Beach, a future county park, in May 1945. This act of defiance was particularly significant given the prevailing racial tensions and the ongoing Double V Campaign.
