Learn the Story That Began in 1945

Welcome to Paradise Renewed!!
Established on August 1, 1945 as
Miami’s ‘Colored Only Beach’
immediately became a spot for social
gatherings to tourists and residents who
made trips to enjoy amenities such as the
carousel, the dancing pavilion or the
mini-train that would run through the
enormous park.
Now, characterized by a unique and
precious natural environment, the City
of Miami’s largest recreational jewel
serves as the ultimate recreational
location for those who want to bask in
the splendor of the sun and ocean.

Executive Director's Corner: Safety First, Safety Always!

Dear Friends and Supporters,

May has arrived at Historic Virginia Key Beach Park, bringing with it the vibrant energy of the season and a deep appreciation for the natural beauty that surrounds us. As the sun begins to stay with us a little longer each day, our shorelines are coming alive with families and visitors seeking the unique serenity that only this historic landmark can provide.

Honoring National Water Safety Month

As we welcome more guests to our beaches, May also marks National Water Safety Month. Our connection to the ocean is at the heart of the Virginia Key experience, and ensuring that every visitor can enjoy our waters safely remains our top priority. Whether you are kayaking through the mangroves or enjoying a swim with your family, we encourage everyone to stay vigilant, respect the tides, and look out for one another. Safety is a shared responsibility that ensures our park remains a sanctuary for all.

The Countdown is On: Food, Wine, and Fête

The anticipation is building! We are officially counting down to Food, Wine, and Fête. This event is more than just a celebration of culinary excellence and Caribbean culture; it is a moment where our community comes together to toast to our shared history and bright future. Tickets are moving fast, and the energy behind this year’s planning is truly infectious. If you haven’t secured your spot yet, now is the time to join us for an unforgettable experience on the sand.

Looking Toward August: A Season of Celebration

While we are soaking up everything May has to offer, we are also looking ahead to August, our official anniversary month. This year feels particularly momentous as we reflect on the decades of resilience and joy that define these grounds.

To honor this milestone, we are preparing a very special surprise to be unveiled during the anniversary festivities. While I can’t share the details just yet, I can promise that it will be a historic tribute to our legacy and a gift to the community that has sustained us.

Thank you for being part of our story. We look forward to seeing you at the park very soon.

Warmly,

Athalie

Reconnecting with DJ Sam Sneak

Recently DJ Sam Sneak visited Historic Virginia Key Beach Park for a local Miami history lesson and tour.

After a highly discussed podcast interview with DJ Sam Sneak on Black Miami history, it was necessary to invite DJ Sneak to pay a visit to the once “Colored Only” beach to see the ongoing renovations and dispel the misinformation on the park throughout the years.

Sam Sneak is a Haitian-American DJ, rapper, and songwriter from North Miami, Florida. He’s known for his “Jam Squad” and “Sam Sneak” drops on mixtapes. Sneak has collaborated with artists like Rick Ross, Wiz Khalifa, Nipsey Hussle, and Curren$y to name a few.

The tour was not only enlightening but gave a fresh take to the timeline of park events and how it related to the evolution of Miami as a whole.

Big thanks to DJ Sam Sneak for taking the time to learn about the role the park played in the South Florida community.

Officials with Miami-Dade County’s Department of Transportation and Public Works, speaking during a virtual public meeting, said lane closures on the West Bridge and William Powell Bridge would be limited “to about three months” of that entire project and would likely take place between the hours of 9 p.m. and 4 a.m., and not on weekends or special event days.

Families play a vital role in teaching children how important it is to learn to swim and be safe in and around water. The American Red Cross has developed resources to help parents, caregivers and kids learn about water competency which involves a combination of being water smart, having water safety and survival skills, and knowing what to do in a water emergency – even if you don’t have access to a pool.
