Over the past month, we had the pleasure of hosting several groups who were interested in learning about the park’s history and environment, as well as giving back to the community through various service-learning programs.
We were thrilled to host the LSU School of Architecture for an eco/history tour. They had the opportunity to meet our Executive Director, Mr. Neil Hall, who shared his experiences and accomplishments as an architect in Miami.
On March 5th, The University of Miami’s Law School Society of Bar and Gavel, along with the Miller School of Medicine conducted a beach cleanup as part of the university’s Dean’s Cup. We were amazed at the dedication and hard work put in by these students, who managed to pick up around 100 pounds of garbage!
Alongside these organizations, we had visits from The Seed School of Miami, Debris Free Oceans and Cub Scout Pack 305, and The City of West Park. They learned about the park’s history and conducted activities from yoga and service learning to beach clean ups, picking up nearly 200 pounds of garbage in total. It was great to see the community taking an active interest in preserving the environment and educating themselves about the park’s native ecology and history.
