As we celebrate Earth Month, it’s important to remember the role that historical preservation plays in protecting our planet.
In 1969, Historic Virginia Key Beach Park was left to decay. Today, it is a vibrant community space that hosts a variety of events and activities. Soon there will be more reason to visit: a new museum is currently under consideration.
We aim to showcase the rich history of Historic Virginia Key Beach and its role in the civil rights movement, as well as highlight the importance of environmental conservation and sustainable living. It’s an exciting development that speaks to the importance of preserving history and promoting a sustainable future.
In addition to the museum planning, we will be hosting a series of events throughout Earth Month celebrating the natural beauty of the park and the importance of environmental conservation. From beach cleanups to nature walks, we offer plenty of opportunities before, during, and after Earth Month.
As we continue to celebrate, let’s remember the interconnectedness of our planet’s history and environment. Historic Virginia Key Beach Park is a shining example of how historical preservation and environmental conservation can work hand in hand to create a better world. By working together, we can ensure that this special place remains a beacon of hope and inspiration for generations to come.

Mr. Neil Hall, FAIA
