Join the Virginia Key Beach Park Trust, Miami’s beloved Black beach and cultural landmark, in celebrating its 80th birthday with a dynamic, three-day celebration honoring its rich history and vibrant future, August 1-3, 2025 at the Historic Virginia Key Beach Park, 4020 Virginia Beach Drive, Miami FL 33149. Themed “From Coastlines to Communities: A Legacy in the Sand,” the weekend features historical reflections, youth engagement, family fun, and cultural programming that spotlight the park’s vital role in South Florida’s Black heritage; and will commemorate Historic Virginia Key Beach Park Day, as designated by the State of Florida.
“This 80th anniversary is more than a birthday, it’s a homecoming for all who cherish the park’s past, present, and future,” says Athalie Edwards, Executive Director/CEO of the Virginia Key Beach Park Trust. “We invite everyone to celebrate this living legacy and help shape its next chapter.”
Founded as Miami’s “Colored Only” beach on August 1, 1945, and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, HVKBP stands today as a powerful symbol of inclusion, unity, and environmental preservation. The weekend festivities promise something for everyone, from ceremonial milestones to sun-soaked fun and soul-stirring cultural expression.
