Turkish Airlines Announces World Record Attempt to Build Tallest Sandcastle

Turkish Airlines launched nonstop service from Miami International Airport to Istanbul Atatürk Airport on Sunday, October 25. As a launch promotion, Turkish Airlines engaged 7-time GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS record holder The Sand Sculpture Company and its owner Ted Siebert to build the tallest sandcastle in the world. The sandcastle is located at Historic Virginia Key Beach Park in Florida, USA. Watch below the time lapse video of the sandcastle.

Structure will highlight some of the Carrier’s most popular worldwide destinations.

WHY: The world record attempt highlights Turkish Airlines inaugural service from Miami to its hub in Istanbul beginning October 25.  The new service will significantly enhance the connectivity to the world for South Floridians allowing them one-stop access to over 270 destinations, including emerging markets in Europe and Asia.
 

FACTS ABOUT THE WORLD RECORD ATTEMPT:

 

  • Alongside a team of 12 sculptors, 7-time record holder Ted Siebert will oversee development.
  • The current world record stands at 41 ft. 3.67 ins. and was achieved in Brazil in Nov. 2014
  • The sculpture will require more than 1,800 tons of sand and take approximately 3 weeks to complete.
  • The work of art is expected to last approximately 2 weeks, with the estimated date of completion being October 24.
  • The sculpture is expected to remain standing for 3 weeks or more after its completion.
