Saturday, August 1 2015 marked the 70th birthday of Virginia Key Beach Park, famous not only for its clear water, carousel, and uninhibited views, but for its historical significance as being the first “colored only” beach in Miami-Dade County.

The annual grass-roots observance, which is free of any specific religious or ideological affiliation, honors the memory of all those who perished in the forced Atlantic crossing known as the “African slave trade” or the Middle Passage, of all who survived and gave life to present and future generations.

April 25th is the annual Miami-Dade County Baynanza beach clean-up event where Historic Virginia Key Beach Park is the VIP site for this county-wide Biscayne Bay cleanup effort.

Historic Virginia Key Beach Park hosts Dine & Dash, a fundraising event that features a coach ride to undisclosed dining locations, a cultural tour, and a surprise stop. Participants will meet at the Historic Virginia Beach Park, 4020 Virginia Beach Drive, Miami, Florida promptly at 5 p.m. for the secret adventure. Proceeds benefit children’s cultural and environmental education programs.
